Woman holding an urnVariety is the spice of life in the 21stCentury. Whether you’re buying ice cream, coffee, cereal, clothing or caskets, the seemingly endless options offer highly customized shopping experiences. But the sheer volume of choices can cause stress. And we don’t want your head to explode. Still, we wonder if you’ve ever considered the plethora of selections available to you relative to your urn.

How to Choose an UrnHow to choose an urn

You may someday need to choose the method of dispensation for a loved one’s final resting place. Options differ depending on whether the deceased specified his or her preferences, did pre-planning, and wanted direct cremation or a traditional service. If they failed to plan, you may find yourself in the driver’s seat.Bodies prepared for quick burial or visitation require embalming and caskets. But what happens when cremation is the option du jour? To streamline the process, consider which type of urn to order based on the following criteria:
Types of Cremation Urns

  1. Functionality of Urns
While they don’t arrive pre-loaded, urns are meant to contain ashes. So, technically, any storage container would work. But few mourners choose coffee cans or shoeboxes to store their loved one’s cremains. Cremains are made up of bone matter that remains after organic material is incinerated. Thus, a tall person leaves more remains than a short one. Men generally have denser bones than women. And young bones are denser than that of older people. On average, the human body produces about five pounds of ashes. Make sure that the urn you select will adequately fulfill the primary function.
  2. Urn Price Points
People don’t like to talk about money when it comes to making final decisions for their loved one’s remains. But we all live in the real world. And money comes in pretty handy while you’re alive. So, it’s not gauche to consider budget in the selection of an urn. Our direct cremation packages do not include an urn or alternative container. Urn selection begins at $30 and alternative containers begin at $75. If you wanted to splurge, a hand-crafted piece goes for as much as $6,000. We don’t have those in stock. But the sky is basically the limit when it comes to how much you could potentially spend on an urn.Ashes for Urn
